F1: It’s Lando in Monaco!
On the greatest day in Motorsports, I’m glued to the TV early this last Sunday to catch all of the Formula One content I can. I’m a big fan and this is Monaco: the epitome of Grand Prix history, glamour, difficulty, and exclusivity.
Don’t get me wrong, I am a Lewis fan. Everything about my love of F1 starts with him. I ride or die for 4️⃣4️⃣🇬🇧.
But my pandemic Netflix Drive to Survive binge also got falling for other parts of the sport: the other characters that make Formula One what I sometimes refer to the craziest traveling circus on Earth.

I’ve been crushing on driver Lando Norris since his rookie season in 2019. Maybe it’s moody the blue eyes, maybe it’s the delight I found in his naïveté: back then, he didn’t even know how to talk to media - a real clown everyone likes to giggle with. I’m down.
Now, he’s near the top. McLaren is fast again. His teammate is giving him a run for his money. And, this is Monaco. Every one of them racers dreams of winning that trophy. For the eternal badge of honor.
This weekend, it was a legendary Lando who layed this track down in Quali for pole. In record time. Full stop. This lap is a big deal.
This race has been going on since for almost 100 years - since 1929. The tight, twisty streets of Monte Carlo make it the most challenging circuit of 24 on the calendar. Drivers race for milli-seconds through city streets, past casinos, the lux harbor, and through a tunnel—no run-off areas, walls menacing, inches away. Flat out. This track here is what they do it for.
Then, on Sunday - he kept his race together pretty much while eating Max’ dirt all race long.
Side note: I thought Max was gonna go to the flag and take the penalty to make a point… Maybe this is Daddy Max.
Yet in that mess of orchestrating one ingredient in a cocktail of rule changes F1 is playing with to entice more enthusiasm from fans and sponsors, once Max got out of the way, the 4️⃣ also dropped the fastest lap of the race. Who’s your daddy? 🏁
This kind of performance - mind /body + human/machine - I’m particularly fond of.
The kind that makes fans run for anthems with flags, while grown men cry.
And now Lando! 🧡
Yay, Monaco! 🏆🇬🇧🏎️
