Introducing: The Ironman Stories

I'd been training pretty regularly for short course triathlons for about 5 years. Mostly as an outlet for my energy and a practice in discipline. As the years passed, the distance got a little longer. Until finally, in 2014, I decided: I would do the Ironman. For my 40th birthday. For an epic memory of that milestone. For the tattoo.

November 2015. Ironman Finish Line. Tempe, AZ.

Of all the pictures from that day, November 15, 2015, the best day of my life so far, this is my favorite one. My brother Alex captured it, reaching his iPhone into the finishing chute and just shooting.

Until that very moment, I'd never dared to imagine it. I had left the crossing of the finish line out of all of my visualizations. Not one time I imagined it, in 10 months of training. I only wanted to experience it in real life. In this moment.

I think I also knew then that I was accomplishing something pretty special. Something not many people undertake. Something I wanted to carry into the future with me. From that moment, on.
