March 2021: Women's History Month

[rt_reading_time label="Reading Time:" postfix="minutes" postfix_singular="minute"]

Rejoice. It's Women's History Month. Not to be confused with International Women's Day, which, with origins dating back to 1901, is celebrated everywhere around the world (on March 8th), every year. Women's History Month has been added to American calendars since 1995.

I am reading Four Winds by Kristin Hannah in my all-women book club this month. Well let me be real, it's being read to me, thanks to my Audible subscription. Nonetheless, I am only 6 or so chapters in and, poor Elsa! I feel a physical disdain imagining myself as a woman in the American West in the early 1930s.

The stories of women who paved the way, the very first one being my mom Francine, fascinate me. I've had it easier than all of them. And I feel a sense of responsibility to them, to honor them and to contribute to our collective work.

Yes, I am into empowering women to reach further and bridge the gap. I am into demanding what we deserve. And at 45 years old, I am starting to realize the power and impact of my voice.

This month, I am using it to talk about women's issues. We'll have the Vagina Talks on the Gloss Over Podcast. We'll also talk about what it means to us to elevate each other. About being direct. About not settling. About choosing to have it all, and also choosing not to have kids. About being courageous.

I hope you will join me.
