EXPERIENCE
The Back Story
Circa 2022. I’m in the middle of a screening interview with an Executive Recruiter. He is considering presenting me to one of his most prestigious clients, a top-notch kinda place. Big 4 strategy type joint.
I’m really flattered, obvi. And always a hard yes on exploring new corporate executive echelon gigs. Mostly to get inside intell, see what’s out there, and keep track of my market value.
Secretly, I am also always curiously looking for an angle to play: “What could a firm like that find interesting in someone like me?!”
He asks me: “As a next step, could you please make a list of all the projects you have ever worked on for the Partner to review?”
To myself: Bro! I’ve worked on hundreds of projects in my career… Is this really necessary?
To him: “Of course, and how many should I target to include for the list to feel complete?”

In the days that followed, it dawned on me. They were looking to thoroughly understand my history as past track record to evaluate the worthiness of my performance from back then.
Meanwhile, I was yearning to talk about what I saw in the future. How the whole constellation of experiences that make me, makes me indispensable. Right now.
With the warm regards note I dropped him to politely to excuse myself from continuing with the recruiting process for said opportunity, I thanked him for the spark of inspiration that led me to this visual.
“Please do not hesitate to call me if you come across an opportunity that’s right, just for me.”
One of them Good Guys, he still calls me every year. 🫶🏼

I showed it to my art partner, my niece Madeleine one morning to get her opinion. She said to me: “It looks like you aren’t done Matante.” She is absolutely right.
