S3/E44: Managing Your Coin
Now That You Are Catching Your Coin, Here Is How To Manage It.
Wealth doesn't have to do with money in many ways. We discuss what it means to live a rich life; one that is full of experiences, gratitude, positive energy, of giving and services. But as we accumulate success in our lives, we are likely to come into some coin. Here are the rules.
- Don't spend more than you make: this is basic AF. If you don't have it, don't spend it. Don't be dependent on those credit cards. Make decision you can afford.
- Pay Yourself First: save. This is 401k and all that jazz. And it's inclusive of your emergency fund. You should have 3 - 6 months of your monthly expenses saved up. In case some shit hits the fan. And it's also for your dream funds.
- Never Pay Full Price: work your connections, find deals, find a coupon, wait for the sale, sample stuff.
- Carry Cash: and appreciate its value. Practice the ritual of holding it, being grateful for it, and spending with intention. The grocery store is a great place to start.
- Use Credit Wisely: find a card that works for your lifestyle and use that card wisely. That designer bag does not need to go on that card.
- You Don't Need It: practice a life in which less stuff is more. Do I really need that pair of black ankle booties? Nein. Declutter, get rid of some shit. Don't buy more.
- Put a Care Team Together: this is a team that looks out for your best interests; especially if you aren't an expert. Teams that have the core competencies you don't. Accountability partners to keep you on track, to help you reach your goals. Financial advisors and accountants are key. Find someone you like, and build a relationship.
- Careful When "Lending" Money To Friends and Family: most likely you won't see it again, so give with the intention to not get paid back. If you do, then good for you.
- Give: for the karma, the energetic exchange, not for the glory. Give to give.
